North West Regional College

The project comprised a six-storey 3400m² extension to the existing Strand Road Building to accommodate the main campus reception, IT Suites, Laboratory Areas and general teaching classrooms and a six-storey 5800m² new build facility, designated as Foyle Building to accommodate Performing Arts, Student Services and General Teaching Facilities. These two elements of the project were linked at Level 4 with an interconnecting bridge spanning over Strand Road.

In order to meet the set BREEAM targets, key elements of the mechanical design were adopted as follows:

• Individual classroom control with either dedicated heat recovery comfort heating and cooling or perimeter radiant panels
• High efficiency condensing gas fired boiler plant
• Variable speed drive motors to all pump and fan motors
• Natural ventilation where design condition’s permitted
• Site-wide Building Energy Management System with dedicated front-end computer to enhance Estate Services controllability and functionality
